About

Kiara Nothhaft’s music is like an intrusive thought covered in paper butterflies and glitter glue. With introspective lyrics, the harmonic influence of 2010s pop punk, and her third-culture-kid upbringing, she infuses her “torn between worlds” perspective into the indie landscape. Her audience can expect the likes of Soccer Mommy, dodie, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadobee, and Avril Lavigne. Kiara reaches out to the type of person akin to a Hello Kitty CD player with a 2000s emo album on loop – people with angsty internal voices living with an amicable exterior. Her music gives a voice to uncomfortable feelings and embraces good in a way that honours and respects those complex inner workings.

Born to a German father and a mother of mixed Malaysian and Hong Kong descent, Kiara spent her formative years hopping between Hong Kong, China, Germany, and back. She turned to songwriting as a means of catharsis during her teen years, pouring her confusing emotions into more digestible verses and choruses. Now based in Boston, Kiara has planted her roots in the American music industry and is here to stay.

Kiara’s debut EP “Scorpio Moon”, released July 2024, is the intimate soundtrack of Kiara’s late teens and a vibrant sonic universe. She is now working on her sophomore release – polishing up her songwriting, leaning into grittier sounds, and dusting off the cobwebs from more neglected corners of the mind to revamp as witty lyrics – forever seeking to scratch the itches of her brain and hopefully extending that metaphorical coat hanger to her listeners.
